Phu Quoc Travel Guide: Stays, North and South, and a 5-Day Itinerary

Stay in Duong Dong for restaurants and the night market, in the south for the Hon Thom cable car, An Thoi islands and Sunset Town, or in the north for the parks and resorts. On a five-day trip, travelling between both ends every day can quickly use up your beach time.

A first visit does not need to include the cable car, island hopping and both major parks. Choose an accommodation area, then two or three priorities: relaxed meals, water play with the children or a full day at sea. Match the five-day plan to your flights, and consider weather, entry requirements and transport alongside the places you want to visit.

Phu Quoc Weather: Seasons and the Best Months to Visit

On a first Phu Quoc trip, it is tempting to list the cable car, island hopping, VinWonders, Safari and the beaches. But north–south travel and your hotel location can take up a sizeable part of each day. For five days and four nights, choose one main focus: a beach holiday, family parks or sea activities in the south, then add other places where they fit the route.

When is a good time to visit Phu Quoc?

As a general seasonal guide, November through April is usually better suited to beaches and boat trips, while May through October more often brings rain, wind and rough seas. Weather varies from year to year. During the transition months of October, November, April and May, check the forecast before departure too. For snorkelling or boat trips, pay attention to marine wind and wave conditions and the operator's updates, rather than checking only whether rain is forecast.

Planning a rainy-season trip to Phu Quoc

Schedule a boat trip in the first half of your stay and leave a later gap for changes. If wind and waves prevent it, find a restaurant in Duong Dong, visit a pepper farm or enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. The cable car and outdoor shows are also weather-dependent, so they are not guaranteed rainy-day alternatives. If sailings stop, check rescheduling or refund terms before choosing another route.

  • Time: Phu Quoc uses UTC+7, one hour behind Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
  • Currency: Everyday purchases are priced in Vietnamese dong, VND. Small notes are useful at night markets and smaller shops.
  • Clothing: Alongside beachwear, pack a light jacket, sun protection and clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for temple visits.
  • Trip length: Four days works well for one main area; five days allows time for both the north and south; seven days gives you more room to change hotels and keep a full rest day.

To adapt your plans to the season, continue with Phu Quoc's changing seasons and November travel planning. If you have already booked a boat trip, save the guide to rescheduling island hopping and choosing alternatives in rough weather so you know what to check on the day.

Before You Go: Phu Quoc Visas, Flights and Packing

A passport, phone and travel documents laid out on a table before a trip
Travel preparation illustration: save flight bookings, hotel addresses and transfer details on your phone.

Keep an offline folder with your passport and applicable entry documents, return flights, the hotel’s Vietnamese address, airport pickup contacts and prepaid tickets. Phu Quoc Airport uses the code PQC. Include your flight number, arrival date and hotel map location when booking a transfer.

Phu Quoc's 30-day visa exemption and connections

Eligible foreign passport holders may qualify for visa-free stays of up to 30 days on Phu Quoc, but having Phu Quoc on a flight booking does not make an entire Vietnam trip visa-free. Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists the Phu Quoc visa exemption rules. Travellers from Taiwan can also consult the entry and departure advice from the Taipei office in Ho Chi Minh City. Actual eligibility depends on your passport, arrival and departure route, and official checks.

  • Direct international arrival and departure, with travel only on Phu Quoc: Check the exemption conditions, passport validity, return or onward travel documents and permitted length of stay.
  • Connecting in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City: Do not assume every connection qualifies. Confirm with your operating airline and the relevant authorities whether you must enter mainland Vietnam, change terminals, collect baggage or check in again.
  • Combining Phu Quoc with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or another Vietnamese city: Unless you separately qualify for visa-free entry to mainland Vietnam, obtain the appropriate Vietnam visa before travel. Phu Quoc's exemption is not permission to travel visa-free throughout the country.

If your route is still undecided, read the complete guide to Phu Quoc visa exemptions and connections. For help preparing an application, see ChungTa Travel's visa assistance and airport fast-track information. Fast-track is an airport assistance service and does not replace valid entry eligibility; availability at PQC must also be confirmed separately.

Packing for Phu Quoc

A waterproof pouch, separate bags for wet and dry items, a secure-fitting hat and comfortable walking shoes will be more useful than packing only flip-flops. Before booking a water park or island-hopping trip, check the changing facilities, storage and towel arrangements. Pack electronics and power banks according to your airline's rules. One small detail also helps: take screenshots of your hotel entrance and airport meeting point before departure, rather than searching through messages after landing with an unreliable signal.

For a complete packing check, use the Vietnam pre-departure checklist. When choosing flights, clarify the differences between direct flights, connections and baggage transfers.

Getting to Know Phu Quoc: Duong Dong, the West Coast, North and South

Phu Quoc, or Phú Quốc, lies in the Gulf of Thailand off southwestern Vietnam. Its identity brings together beaches, fishing and resort holidays. In a single trip, you might see fishing boats and fish sauce workshops in the morning, take a cable car across the sea in the afternoon, and stroll through a brightly lit seaside town at night. These different sides give it a character distinct from a big city.

Duong Dong, the west coast, the south and the north

Duong Dong, Dương Đông, and the west coast are a good starting point for night markets, restaurants and seaside cafés. Continue along the west coast towards Long Beach, Bãi Trường, and there is a wide choice of resorts. The An Thoi, An Thới, area in the south connects Sunset Town, Kiss Bridge, the Hon Thom cable car and the southern island groups. The north centres on VinWonders, Safari, Grand World and the surrounding resort areas.

You will also see the beach name Bãi Dài in the north. Do not assume it is the same area as Bãi Trường on the west coast simply because both may be translated as Long Beach. A hotel’s Vietnamese address, map location and distance from your planned sights tell you more about its area than the words Phu Quoc in its name.

Fishing harbours, temples and fish sauce culture

Duong Dong Night Market is lively, while the headland at Dinh Cau works well for a short walk. Ho Quoc Pagoda offers a quieter perspective on the south, and pepper farms and fish sauce traditions connect the flavours on your plate to the land and sea. These stops do not necessarily need a whole day. Sometimes one place you are truly interested in fits naturally between two other plans.

Start with Dinh Cau Temple and its headland, Ho Quoc Pagoda and pepper farms and pearl cultivation. Then return to the overview of northern and southern Phu Quoc to put the map together.

Why Visit Phu Quoc? Family Trips, Honeymoons and Beach Holidays

If the aim of this holiday is to slow down somewhere new, Phu Quoc deserves a place on your shortlist. There is more to do than lie on the sand, and the whole trip does not have to become a daily drive around the island. Theme park fans can focus on the north; travellers drawn to sea views and evening shows can stay in the south; and those who want convenient dining with a holiday atmosphere can look around Duong Dong and the west coast.

Families, honeymoons and friends travelling together

  • Family trips: Choose one main theme park day, then keep other days open for swimming pools, naps and easy meals. Children do not need the same packed checklist as adults.
  • Couples and honeymoons: Spread sea-view accommodation, sunset plans and a special dinner across different days, so rain does not leave an entire day on hold.
  • Friends travelling together: Some can take a boat trip while others relax at the hotel, then everyone can meet for dinner. Nobody needs to join every activity.
  • Travelling with older relatives: Think first about getting in and out of vehicles, walking at piers, the hotel layout and places to rest. Then choose the sights.

How Phu Quoc differs from a city trip

If you prefer compact city neighbourhoods, a different museum each day, or getting around on foot and public transport, Phu Quoc may not be the easiest first choice. A short holiday that tries to include the northern parks, southern cable car and island hopping also calls for realistic expectations. Getting up earlier does not remove the distances between them.

If you are still deciding, compare Phu Quoc and Da Nang, or read the comparison of Vietnam's islands and bays. To combine an island stay with a city, use the Vietnam travel guide to check the time and transport involved before committing to two destinations.

Where to Stay on Phu Quoc: Duong Dong, Long Beach, North or South?

Two hotels can both advertise sea views yet lead to very different daily journeys. Mark your two priority places on the map: look at Duong Dong for restaurants and the night market, the south for the cable car and evening activities, or the north for VinWonders and Safari.

Resorts and hotels on Phu Quoc

On the west coast, you could research resorts such as Regent Phu Quoc and InterContinental Phu Quoc. For Khem Beach in the south, start with JW Marriott Phu Quoc and nearby accommodation. In the north, compare the Vinpearl properties and options around Grand World. Prices, room categories and locations vary considerably between hotels. Once you have a shortlist, compare room rates, breakfast and cancellation terms for your dates.

Should you change hotels on a five-day, four-night trip?

For a five-day trip with a late arrival or early departure, I would usually lean towards moving luggage one fewer time: stay in one area and devote a full day to the other end of the island. Splitting the stay makes more sense if both the northern parks and southern evenings are priorities, and you are happy to allow time for checkout, luggage storage and another check-in. With seven days or more, changing areas is less likely to eat into your rest time.

Families should check extra beds, children's breakfasts, attraction height restrictions and pool rules. For a honeymoon, compare quietness, views, dinner options and transfers alongside the room photographs. Read more in the complete comparison of Phu Quoc accommodation areas and the guide to honeymoon plans and sea-view resorts.

To discuss accommodation as part of your trip, submit your Phu Quoc requirements through custom itinerary enquiries including accommodation. If you have already booked a hotel, compare the independent trip planning service with self-booked accommodation. The published starting prices on those two pages are not specific Phu Quoc quotations. Island hotels, dates and service details must be confirmed separately.

Phu Quoc Transport: Airport Transfers, Buses, Taxis and Private Cars

Places on a Phu Quoc map can look deceptively close. Walking from your hotel room to the driveway, from a car park to an entrance, and waiting for a ride after a show all add to travel time. Consider airport arrivals, daytime trips within one area and journeys between the north and south separately when choosing transport.

Phu Quoc airport transfers

From PQC, Duong Dong, the west coast, the south and the north involve different routes. When reserving, provide the flight number, adult and child passenger numbers, luggage count and any unusual items. Ask about waiting time, night charges, parking fees and flight changes. Large suitcases, pushchairs and golf bags all affect luggage space. Include their numbers when booking so a suitable vehicle is easier to choose.

VinBus and hotel shuttles

VinBus officially lists Route 17 between the airport and Grand World, along with routes serving the west coast and north. Use the VinBus live route lookup to check stops, timetables and fares. Operating conditions can change. Not every vehicle or shuttle journey is free, and not every hotel has a stop outside. If you have plenty of luggage, arrive late or need to reach an activity, do not rely solely on an old travel article.

Taxis, ride-booking platforms and private cars between areas

For short journeys around Duong Dong or your hotel, compare ride-booking platforms, taxis and transport arranged through the hotel. Confirm the registration plate, destination and fare calculation before leaving. For journeys between the north and south, travel with older relatives or children, or a late return after a show, I would confirm the return journey beforehand rather than start searching at the roadside as everyone leaves.

When enquiring about a private car, list the starting and finishing hotels, planned stops, hours required and whether you need a guide. The quote should clearly state what is included for the car, guide and admission tickets. Mention any preferred language for commentary, child seats or evening services when booking, then check charges for travel between areas and overtime. If you are considering renting a motorbike, first check that your licence, insurance and riding experience meet local requirements.

For details, see the guide to airport transfers to Phu Quoc's accommodation areas and the Phu Quoc private car and booking assistance guide. Send your proposed route to ChungTa Travel customer service to enquire about arrangements. Prices for the website's Ho Chi Minh City, Mui Ne and Vung Tau car services are not quotations for transport on Phu Quoc.

Phu Quoc Itineraries: Four, Five and Seven Days

The square, fountains and buildings at Grand World on Phu Quoc

Count your usable days before choosing an itinerary. A late arrival usually leaves room only for check-in and dinner, while an early departure leaves no time for a boat trip. Four days suits one main area; five allows a day each for the north and south; seven gives more room to change hotels and slow down. Adapt the routes below to your flights.

Five days and four nights on Phu Quoc

  1. Day 1 | Arrival and settling into island time: Take the airport transfer, check in and find dinner near your accommodation. Stay in Duong Dong and you could visit the night market; stay at a resort and enjoy the nearby shore first. Avoid crossing the entire island for a single attraction.
  2. Day 2 | Southern cable car and Sunset Town: Make the Hon Thom cable car the focus, adding the water park if it interests you. Return to Sunset Town for dinner in the late afternoon, then a show if reserved. Confirm transport back to the hotel beforehand.
  3. Day 3 | Island hopping, or a day for the resort: Go to sea only if marine conditions and your energy levels are suitable. Those staying ashore could choose a beach, Ho Quoc Pagoda, pepper culture or hotel rest. Keep the option to swap this day with another.
  4. Day 4 | Choose a northern highlight: Make VinWonders or Safari the main destination, then walk and eat at Grand World if you have the energy. If you want substantial time in both parks, replace island hopping or another activity instead of fitting everything into this day.
  5. Day 5 | Breakfast, a few purchases and departure: Time checkout and the transfer around your flight. Allow time for the journey to the airport and check-in.

If you stay in the north, Days 2 and 4 can be swapped. If the south is your main interest, skip the north and give a day to the beach and hotel. Both approaches work; what matters is matching your accommodation, flights and companions.

Four days and three nights on Phu Quoc

With arrival on the first day and departure on the last, the middle two days are better suited to the south plus beach time, or northern parks plus the resort. If you want the cable car and island hopping, save the north for another trip. If theme parks are the priority with children, there is no need to add two long journeys between areas. On a short holiday, one fewer hotel move usually makes the trip more comfortable.

Seven days and six nights on Phu Quoc

You could spend the first part in the north, visiting Safari and VinWonders on separate days, then move to the west coast or south for the cable car, sunsets and a boat trip. On the hotel-change day, focus on convenient stops along the way and checking in, rather than treating it as a full water-activity day. I would keep at least half a day to a day for the pool, beach and a meal of my own choosing. That is part of the feeling of an island holiday.

Phu Quoc travel costs

  • Layer one: International or domestic flights, checked baggage, accommodation, breakfast and differences between room categories.
  • Layer two: Everyday meals, local transport, airport transfers and souvenirs.
  • Layer three: Booked experiences such as parks, the cable car, shows, island hopping, spa treatments, private cars and guides.

Compare per-room, per-person, per-vehicle and whole-group prices separately. Children, journeys between areas, evening services and cancellation terms can affect the total. This five-day, four-night Phu Quoc route needs a quote for your dates, accommodation and services. A custom product’s published starting price applies only to the conditions on its product page; it is not a fixed price for this five-day trip. Compare custom itineraries including accommodation with itinerary planning with self-booked accommodation without paying for every uncertain element in advance.

Phu Quoc Attractions: Cable Cars, Parks, Beaches and Sunset Town

Phu Quoc's main sights are easy to group into the south, the north and the area around Duong Dong. Southern attractions fit naturally into the same day or two neighbouring days, while the northern parks deserve a generous amount of time. Beaches and temples can make a change of pace for half a day, instead of being squeezed onto the end of every day's plans.

The Hon Thom sea-crossing cable car and Sun World Hon Thom

The cable car's appeal is not only arriving at Hon Thom, but watching the sea, fishing boats and small islands unfold along the way. The island also has Aquatopia Water Park and other attractions. If you want to swim, allow time for changing, storage, lunch and the return journey. Packages may include different meals, bridge admission or evening shows, so compare their inclusions with the experiences you want. Start with the Hon Thom cable car introduction and the guide to ticket types and southern island transport.

Sunset Town, Kiss Bridge and VUI-Fest

This area works well for an afternoon walk followed by dinner and evening views. If you enjoy photography, reserve the softer light for the waterfront. However, Kiss Bridge, Kiss of the Sea and Symphony of the Sea are different experiences: one name on a ticket does not mean the others are included. Explore the details in Sunset Town and Kiss Bridge, VUI-Fest seaside bazaar and the guide to show differences and ticket choices.

VinWonders, Safari and Grand World

VinWonders theme park suits a day centred on rides, while Vinpearl Safari has a different pace of exploration. With children, choose priorities according to age, stamina and height restrictions. A seemingly good-value combination ticket is not a reason to force both parks into one day. Grand World can follow for a walk, a meal and evening activities, although individual experiences there may still require separate tickets. Before buying, read how to choose one-day and two-day tickets for the north.

Sao Beach, Ho Quoc Pagoda and historical sites

Sao Beach, Bãi Sao, offers an introduction to the southern coast. The Khem Beach area can also be combined with a stay or a meal; confirm access, seating and facility use locally. At Ho Quoc Pagoda, dress appropriately and keep your voice low. Phu Quoc Prison is a historical site with some distressing displays, so consider their suitability before taking children. When photographing marine life, leave it in its natural surroundings without catching or moving it.

For more places to choose from, browse the website's Phu Quoc attraction listings and the southern island route guide. Put the places you want to visit on the same map before finalising your days.

Phu Quoc Boat Trips: Island Hopping, Snorkelling, Sunset and Night Fishing

Fishing boats, the coast and cable car views at An Thoi harbour on Phu Quoc
Fishing boats, the coastline and the sea-crossing cable car at An Thoi harbour.

Before comparing Phu Quoc boat trips, decide what you actually want to do: visit smaller islands and snorkel during the day, watch the changing light from a boat at sunset, or try night fishing. These are not the same as a city river's scheduled dinner cruise. Comparing a single boat-trip price can mean comparing entirely different boats, durations and meal arrangements.

Southern island hopping and snorkelling

The An Thoi island group is a common direction for sea trips, which may use larger boats, speedboats or private vessels. When choosing a boat, compare time at each stop, snorkelling arrangements, safety equipment, accompanying staff and hotel transfers alongside the number of islands. With young children, older relatives or less confident swimmers, assess suitability before focusing on the colour of the sea in promotional photographs.

Some packages combine the cable car and island hopping on the same day. Check the order of activities, luggage and changing arrangements, and whether transfers connect smoothly. If you want time in both the water park and a long snorkelling session, two separate days usually leave more room. Start with introduction to island hopping and snorkelling around An Thoi.

Sunset cruises and night squid fishing

Local operators offer sunset and night-fishing experiences. For example, John's Tours publishes sunset and night-fishing trip information to compare. This tour is operated by John's Tours. When enquiring with ChungTa Travel, ask about available boats, routes and prices. The departure pier, meal inclusions, pickup area and seasonal route depend on the actual booking. Neither a visible sunset nor a successful squid catch can be promised in advance.

Booking a Phu Quoc boat trip

  1. Will it be a larger boat, speedboat or another vessel type, and will the trip be shared with other travellers?
  2. Approximately when are the meeting time, boarding, return sailing and arrival back at the hotel?
  3. Are life jackets available in suitable sizes, how is snorkelling supervised, and what happens for people who stay out of the water?
  4. Which meals, drinking water and equipment are included, and what extra charges might apply?
  5. Which hotel areas are covered by pickup, and is there a surcharge for more remote accommodation?
  6. Which terms apply to weather cancellations, last-minute route changes, rescheduling and cancellation?
  7. What information is needed in advance about special requirements, insurance and activity restrictions?

Tell ChungTa Travel customer service which activities interest you to check the options that can be arranged for your date. Also save the guide to alternatives when rough seas stop sailings. Sea routes may change with wind and waves. If you are flying on the final day, it is best to keep the morning for breakfast, checkout and the airport transfer.

Phu Quoc Food: Local Noodles, Seafood and Sea-View Restaurants

An illustrative seaside seafood stall scene evoking dining on Phu Quoc
An illustrative seafood stall and seaside dining scene.

Your first meal on Phu Quoc need not be in a sea-view restaurant. Try a bowl of bún quậy in Duong Dong, mix your own dipping sauce and look at the day’s seafood as you pass the market. Save a seaside restaurant for an evening when you want to linger. You can taste everyday island food without letting reservations dictate every meal.

Local food on Phu Quoc

  • Bún quậy, stirred rice noodles: Seafood and rice noodles are central, often with a dipping sauce you mix yourself. On your first order, ask about ingredients, portion size and spice levels rather than immediately copying someone else's generous sauce proportions.
  • Bún kèn, coconut and fish rice noodles: If you enjoy richer flavours, add this local combination of coconut and fish to your breakfast list.
  • Cooked seafood: For grilled sea urchin, crab, fish and prawns, first check whether prices are per portion or by weight and how cooking fees are calculated. If someone in the group does not eat seafood, plan suitable staple dishes and vegetables too.
  • Gỏi cá trích, herring salad: This frequently mentioned local dish uses raw fish. Choose cooked food instead if raw fish is not for you; there is no need to force yourself for the sake of a must-eat list.
  • Pepper, fish sauce and seasonal ingredients: They are more than souvenirs. Notice how they contribute to a seafood dish, a bowl of soup or a dipping sauce.

Walk around the market and check menus and prices before sitting down. For seafood, ask about weighing and cooking charges. Anyone avoiding raw food can choose cooked dishes instead of herring salad. For more ideas, see the Phu Quoc local food guide.

Phu Quoc and MICHELIN: inclusion announced, with the first selection expected in 2027

MICHELIN announced on October 1, 2026 that Phu Quoc would join the Guide, with its first restaurant selection expected in 2027. As of October 18, 2026, stars, Bib Gourmand distinctions and recommended restaurants on the island were still awaiting that first selection. A chef's previous credentials are separate from recognition for their current restaurant. Follow the Phu Quoc MICHELIN announcement updates and food travel planning guide for developments.

Sea-view restaurants and international cuisines

In the south, you could research JW Marriott's French restaurant Pink Pearl, international dining at Tempus Fugit and its other venues. On the west coast, Regent's dining options include the Japanese-French restaurant Oku, as well as Rice Market. For a dinner with a different atmosphere, choose by your accommodation area and favourite cuisine. Before reserving, check JW Marriott's official dining information and Regent's official dining information for menus, access for non-residents, policies for children and dress requirements.

For a casual meal, look around Duong Dong, the west coast and Sunset Town for Vietnamese, Korean or Indian food, pizza and café restaurants. There is no need to cross the island repeatedly for popular venues. Enjoy a relaxed meal near your accommodation and save a full evening for a restaurant you really want to visit.

Shopping on Phu Quoc: Duong Dong Night Market and Local Souvenirs

Browsing a night market and choosing gifts need not happen on the same evening in Phu Quoc. Night markets suit a look around snacks and souvenirs. For pepper, fish sauce, alcohol or pearls, allow time to compare labels, packaging and origin rather than rushing to buy a large bag the night before departure.

Duong Dong Night Market

Duong Dong Night Market lends itself to an evening of wandering, without a list of every stall in advance. Have a meal first, then buy a small amount of any snacks you like. Check how seafood and loose food products are priced, and look at expiry dates and storage instructions when choosing gifts.

VUI-Fest and Grand World

In the south, VUI-Fest can accompany a walk and dinner in Sunset Town. In the north, Grand World fits with nearby accommodation and activities. These are separate locations, not one shopping street that is always walkable from your hotel. If you mainly need everyday essentials, ask about supermarkets or convenience shops near your accommodation first.

Pepper, fish sauce, sim wine and pearls

  • Pepper: Compare whole and ground pepper, packaging and origin labels. Small packs are useful for giving to several people and are easier to store.
  • Fish sauce: Ask the seller about leakproof packaging, then check your airline and destination rules for whether it can be carried and how to pack it in checked baggage. Do not simply put it in your cabin bag as an ordinary liquid.
  • Sim, or rose myrtle, wine, drinks and other products: Alcohol and food are subject to different rules. Check volume, ingredients and import restrictions before buying, rather than relying on someone else's old baggage experience.
  • Pearls: Compare natural and cultured pearls, materials, proof of origin, care instructions and after-sales terms. If you find a style you like, compare options at a few shops.

For more options, read the Phu Quoc souvenir guide and the comparison of night market, supermarket and airport shopping. For farm visits and pearl-related attractions, see the introduction to pepper farms and pearl cultivation. You can simply enjoy the visit and buy something if you find something you like.

Phu Quoc Nightlife: Beach Bars, Restaurant-Bars and Evening Shows

A seaside market street on Phu Quoc for an evening walk
The seaside VUI-Fest market in the south is a pleasant place for an evening walk, a meal and views after dark.

An evening on Phu Quoc need not be loud. Choose beach clubs and music for a lively night, a restaurant-bar for a quiet meal, or markets, the waterfront and shows if you do not drink. Decide which area to spend the evening in before picking a venue: travelling between northern and southern bars can take longer than sitting down for a drink.

Beach bars on the west coast

On the west coast, explore the seaside dining and bar options at Sailing Club Phu Quoc. With both dining and leisure spaces, it is an option for combining dinner with a beach atmosphere. Confirm events, seating, entry conditions and any minimum spend directly with the venue for the day. The same programme and sunset views are not guaranteed every evening.

Rooftop and hotel bars

Regent's Fu Bar is an adults-only elevated bar space, while Bar Jade focuses on cocktails. JW Marriott's Department of Chemistry Bar has a different themed atmosphere. You cannot necessarily walk in and use every facility at these venues. When reserving, ask about non-resident access, dress requirements, age limits, spending conditions and weather changes. Be clear whether you are interested in dining and drinks or access to a pool.

Evening districts in Duong Dong, the south and the north

Duong Dong and the Trần Hưng Đạo corridor are useful starting points for restaurants, bars and cafés. Bars are spread out, so choose with your accommodation location in mind. Southern Sunset Town offers waterfront dining and restaurant-bars such as Sun Bavaria GastroPub, while northern Grand World has another evening commercial area. Choosing an area on the map is more useful than searching only for one bar street name.

Evening shows and waterfront walks

Kiss of the Sea and Symphony of the Sea each publish their own performance dates, ticket options and weather updates. Check the latest programme before heading out. For a simpler evening, have dinner and a walk in Duong Dong or stay by the sea at your hotel. Book the return trip or confirm how to get a ride beforehand, do not ride or drive after drinking, and agree on a meeting point with your companions.

For a fuller plan, read the Phu Quoc nightlife and return transport guide. Confirm southern island events against Sun World's latest official announcements. For holiday periods, see the Christmas and New Year accommodation and transport planning guide.

Vietnam Mobile Data: eSIMs, SIM Cards and Phone Setup

A traveller setting up a phone and a travel SIM card
SIM setup illustration. Test maps and messaging apps after arrival.

Airport pickups, hotel entrances, pier meetings and ride pickup points on Phu Quoc often require you to send your current location, so your phone needs internet access. Consider an eSIM, a physical SIM or roaming on your existing number. Compare phone compatibility, cost and whether you need a Vietnamese phone number.

eSIMs: compatible phones and activation

Before paying, check that your phone model is compatible and network-unlocked, which network the plan uses, and whether its validity starts at installation or the first connection. Not every eSIM includes a Vietnamese phone number. If you need to receive local calls or phone your hotel, a data-only plan is not a voice plan.

Physical SIMs and airport collection

A physical SIM suits travellers who want help with setup or whose phones do not support eSIMs. Buy from a legitimate provider, complete the required identity registration and keep your original SIM safe. Before leaving the counter, open a map, send a message and confirm your data allowance and expiry date. Viettel's tourist SIM portal also lets you check official plans and required documents. It also makes it easier to identify the provider behind the plan you are buying.

Offline maps and contacts for sea trips

Connections are usually easier at hotels and in town; at sea, the signal may weaken or drop out. Save screenshots of the meeting point, boat operator's contact details, hotel address in Vietnamese and booking confirmation. Do not leave it until the boat is about to depart to find a reservation number. Send the meeting details to a travel companion too, so you have a backup if you cannot find your phone.

For setup instructions, see the Vietnam eSIM and SIM card installation guide. If you ask ChungTa Travel to help arrange connectivity, first confirm whether pickup or delivery is available for PQC. Collection arrangements at Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City airports do not automatically apply here.

Money on Phu Quoc: Dong, Card Payments and ATMs

A traveller checking Vietnamese dong and a receipt at a currency exchange counter
Currency exchange illustration. Compare the rate, fees and amount you will receive at the counter.

When you first handle Vietnamese dong, the long string of zeros can take more getting used to than the exchange rate. A menu price of “50k” usually means 50,000 dong. Check the full amount before paying, especially at night markets, when seafood is priced by weight or when splitting a group bill.

Currency exchange at the airport and in town

Airport and hotel exchange services may offer different terms from banks or authorised counters in town. Ask which currencies are accepted, what fees apply, the exchange rate and the actual amount of dong you will receive before deciding how much to change. Use authorised channels and keep your receipt. Rates can change daily, so older quotes online are only a reference.

Credit cards and cash for the night market

Confirm card acceptance directly with hotels, shopping centres and established dining venues. For market snacks and some transport, cash is easier to use. If a shop offers QR payments, ask whether your overseas wallet or bank account is supported. It is still useful to have both a credit card and cash available.

  • Before using an ATM, check that overseas withdrawals are enabled, your card issuer's charges and the fee displayed on screen. If offered a currency conversion option, read the exchange rate carefully.
  • Keep payment cards and backup cash separately. Check change in front of the seller, rather than hurriedly handing over a handful of notes in a queue or poor lighting.
  • For seafood, confirm whether the price is per portion, per item or by weight, and whether cooking costs extra. In restaurants, check taxes and service charges rather than looking only at the first number on the menu.
  • When booking a boat, vehicle or hotel, check the payment currency, deposit, balance and cancellation rules. Keep payment records and booking confirmations.

For more detail, continue with the Vietnam currency exchange, credit card and ATM guide. Separately check arrival and departure customs rules for large amounts of cash and souvenirs; there is no need to carry your entire travel budget in banknotes.

Hair Washing and Massage on Phu Quoc: Vietnamese Hair Care and Hotel Spas

After a full day of salt water and sand, having your hair washed and blow-dried before heading out to dinner can be one of a beach holiday's small pleasures. Add a neck and shoulder massage if you want a little more rest, or book a hotel spa for a leisurely afternoon, allowing time for the journey and a break afterwards.

Vietnamese hair washing: shampooing, scalp cleansing and neck and shoulder relaxation

To find a hair-washing salon on Phu Quoc, search for the Vietnamese term gội đầu. For a wellness-focused wash, a common search term is gội đầu dưỡng sinh. A salon in Duong Dong or near your accommodation fits easily before or after dinner and saves a long journey between the north and south.

Alongside shampooing and blow-drying, look for any head, neck, shoulder or arm massage included on the menu. Some packages focus on hair washing; others allow longer for massage, and the sequence varies between salons. Ask at the outset whether short or long hair, added conditioning treatments and styling have different prices. If your hair has recently been coloured or permed, or your scalp is sensitive, discuss products and hair-care requirements when booking.

Hotel spas: leave an afternoon to enjoy the experience

For a quieter setting, start with the spa at your own hotel. On the west coast, InterContinental Phu Quoc's HARNN Heritage Spa is set beside a lotus pond, with bamboo pavilions and water views among its features. Check its official menu for current treatments and booking details. For a couples treatment, or if you are not staying at the hotel, ask about visitor access and reservation conditions in advance.

Hotel spas and Vietnamese hair-washing salons usually have different menus. A spa may focus on body massage, facials and other treatments, while a hair-washing salon combines shampooing, scalp cleansing and head and shoulder relaxation. If having your hair washed is your main aim, look for that service on the spa menu before booking.

Fitting a treatment into your Phu Quoc itinerary

I would put a hair-washing appointment on the evening after island hopping: return to the hotel to shower and change out of wet clothes, then visit a nearby salon. For a longer spa treatment, choose an afternoon with no boat or show to rush to. If two of you are going, check whether you can be treated at the same time, and leave a gap before any activity with a fixed admission time.

Before booking, check the treatment duration, full cost, tipping or service charges, and transport to and from the hotel. Families should also ask about age limits and accompanying adults. To combine massage, a sea-view stay and dinner in one day, see the guide to Phu Quoc sea-view resorts and spa plans, then choose around your accommodation area.

Photography on Phu Quoc: Beaches, Sunset Town and Photo Routes

Phu Quoc offers plenty of variety for travel photographs: white sand, palm trees, the cable car over the sea and whole streets of colourful buildings in Sunset Town. Choose one or two settings you like, wear something comfortable and keep the walk relaxed. The photographs are more likely to feel like your own holiday than a tour of every possible backdrop.

Beach photography: white sand, palms and the coastline

Sao Beach, Bãi Sao, suits white-sand, palm-tree and pale-water backgrounds. For sunset silhouettes, look into Long Beach, Bãi Trường, on the west coast. Morning and late-afternoon light is usually softer and more comfortable than midday. To capture the colour of the water, also consider the sun's direction, cloud cover and the day's sea conditions.

For beach clothing, start with white, pale blue or a solid colour you like, rather than bringing many outfits to change repeatedly in the sun. If someone in the group does not want photographs, choose a beach near the hotel or on the day’s route, with somewhere to sit over a drink afterwards so the whole group is not kept waiting. Ask locally or when booking whether beach facilities, seating or photography activities cost extra.

Sunset Town: colourful buildings, stairways and sea views

Sunset Town and Kiss Bridge suit travellers who like street scenes, architectural lines and photographs as a couple. Spend the afternoon walking through the neighbourhood, looking for shaded stairs, windows and corners, then head towards the waterfront as evening approaches. Popular photo spots are more pleasant when you can avoid a long queue in the strongest sun.

Kiss Bridge, performance venues and cafés each have their own admission or spending rules. If you plan to hire a photographer, bring substantial equipment or change outfits for photographs inside a café, check with the venue beforehand. On a show evening, keep the photo session, dinner and admission in the same area to make the evening easier.

Grand World in the north: canals and colourful streets

If you are staying in the north, Grand World fits naturally into a walk that day. Its canalside buildings, bridges and streets offer an urban contrast to the beaches, with a different atmosphere by day and after the lights come on. After a full day in a theme park, keep photography brief and leave time for dinner and rest.

Choose your photographic style before looking for a photographer

For a booked photo session, gather a few reference photographs you like, along with your dates, group size, accommodation location and preferred places. Then ask local photographers, or ask customer service to help look into available options. A beach wedding-style shoot, candid holiday photographs and family portraits call for different clothing, session lengths and preparation.

The booking details should list shooting hours, the number of locations, how many original and retouched images you receive, delivery time, and whether hair and makeup, clothing, transport and admission are included. For outdoor photography, agree on rainy-weather rescheduling too. Drone photography requires separate checks on venue permission and local rules, as permission varies by location.

To include photography in a honeymoon, continue with the Phu Quoc honeymoon and sea-view accommodation guide. If you also need transport that day, include your photography route and times in a trip enquiry and ask about a vehicle for your requirements.

Phu Quoc Travel FAQ

How many days should I allow for a first Phu Quoc trip?

Four days and three nights suits one main area. Five days and four nights allows time for both the north and south with a flexible day. Seven days and six nights makes it easier to stay in different areas and separate theme parks from boat trips. Subtract late arrivals and early departures before counting your full days.

When is the best time to visit Phu Quoc? Can I go in the rainy season?

Generally, November through April is better suited to beaches and boat trips, while May through October more often brings rain, wind and rough seas. A rainy-season holiday is possible, but boat trips, the cable car and outdoor activities need to follow the day's conditions, with room to reschedule.

Does every Phu Quoc itinerary qualify for 30-day visa-free entry?

No. Eligibility for Phu Quoc's exemption does not mean visa-free entry throughout Vietnam. Your passport, international arrival and departure route, connection procedures and any visit to mainland Vietnam all need checking together. Official and operating airline requirements ultimately apply.

Do I need a visa before connecting through Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc?

Visa requirements depend on the actual connection and entry procedures. If the journey involves entering mainland Vietnam, collecting baggage, changing terminals or checking in again, confirm with your airline and the relevant authorities whether it meets the exemption conditions. If it does not, and you have no separate mainland visa exemption, obtain the appropriate visa in advance.

Should I stay in Duong Dong, the south or the north?

Start with Duong Dong for convenient dining and local life. Consider the south if the cable car, island hopping and Sunset Town are priorities. Compare the north if VinWonders and Safari are the main focus. Travellers who want time at their hotel can also look at west-coast Long Beach resorts.

Are the west coast's Long Beach and Bãi Dài in the north the same place?

They are different accommodation areas. When booking, check Vietnamese place names such as Bãi Trường and Bãi Dài alongside the map location, rather than relying only on translated names. Transport to northern and southern attractions will differ too.

Do I have to book a private car for independent travel on Phu Quoc?

No. For short trips within the same area, compare ride booking, taxis and shuttles. Consider reserved transport for journeys between the north and south, extra luggage or an evening return. A private car quote should clearly state pickup and drop-off points, hours, travel between areas, overtime and whether a guide is included.

Are all Phu Quoc airport buses free?

You cannot make that generalisation. Different routes, attraction shuttles and hotel vehicles have different conditions. Check current stops, fares and timetables with VinBus and the relevant provider, rather than carrying over free-fare information from old articles.

Can I do the cable car, island hopping and water park in one day?

Some combinations may be arranged on the same day, but how comfortable they are depends on the boat type, time at each stop, changing arrangements, transfers and the return journey. If you want plenty of time in both activities, separating them usually leaves more room. Check the actual schedule before booking.

Do Safari and VinWonders have to be visited on the same day?

No. Evaluate a combination ticket alongside its valid dates, number of entries and your energy levels. With children, or if you want to explore thoroughly, consider separate days or choose the park that better matches your interests.

Does Phu Quoc already have a list of MICHELIN-starred restaurants?

As of October 18, 2026, MICHELIN has announced Phu Quoc's inclusion, with the first restaurant selection expected in 2027. Once published, the official stars, Bib Gourmand distinctions and recommended selections can help you choose restaurants. The chef experience described in current restaurant introductions should be considered separately from that forthcoming list.

How do Vietnamese hair washing and hotel spa treatments differ on Phu Quoc?

Vietnamese hair washing usually focuses on shampooing, scalp cleansing and head and shoulder relaxation. Hotel spas may offer body massage, facials and other treatments. Packages vary by venue, so check whether hair washing and blow-drying are included, along with the treatment duration and total cost.

What is a good time of day for holiday photographs on Phu Quoc?

Morning or late afternoon usually suits beach and street photography, with softer light and less intense sun. The west coast is worth considering for sunset photographs, while Sunset Town and Grand World offer different architectural settings. Choose the actual time around the weather, your accommodation location and the style of photographs you want.

Does Phu Quoc island hopping guarantee clear water or a sunset?

Water clarity, wind, waves, routing and weather all affect the experience. Before booking, understand route changes, cancelled sailings, rescheduling and refund rules. Attractive photographs should not distract from whether the sea is suitable on the day.

Which areas have Phu Quoc's bars?

Phu Quoc's nightlife is spread out. Start with Duong Dong and Trần Hưng Đạo, west-coast beach clubs, southern waterfront restaurant-bars or northern commercial areas. Distances between them vary, so arrange the return journey once you have chosen a venue.

What should I check first when travelling with older relatives or children?

Start with the hotel layout, vehicle and luggage needs, child seats, walking distances at attractions and activity restrictions. Boats, speedboats and water attractions do not suit everyone. Provide actual ages and requirements, then choose suitable alternatives.

Is the website's custom itinerary starting price the cost of five days on Phu Quoc?

No. Public starting prices for custom products apply to the conditions listed on those pages, not to the example route in this guide. Phu Quoc accommodation, tickets, transport and guides must be reconfirmed for your dates, group size and actual itinerary.

What information should I prepare before asking ChungTa Travel about a Phu Quoc trip?

Provide your dates, full flights, adult and child numbers, luggage, hotel name or accommodation budget, three activities you most want to do and preferred language. Then confirm inclusions, availability, payment terms and cancellation conditions together.

Phu Quoc Transfers and Custom Itineraries: Start with Your Transport Needs

Travellers discussing an itinerary with a travel service representative at a table
Itinerary consultation illustration.

An independent Phu Quoc holiday can mean booking your own hotel, finding your own restaurants and asking a travel agency to help with the more time-consuming transport and reservations. When travelling with older relatives or children, visiting Vietnam for the first time, or combining the north and south in one trip, having someone check routes and timings with you can save a good deal of preparation.

A local travel agency and its company information

ChungTa Travel’s Chinese company name is 越南眾達國際旅行社, and its business name is CHUNG TA INTERNATIONAL TRAVELING CO., LTD. Company registration, contact details and business information can be found on the About Us page and in the website footer. When enquiring about Phu Quoc, also ask about local assistance, service staff and contacts during your trip.

Already booked a hotel? Start with transport and your itinerary

If your accommodation is settled, submit your requirements through independent trip planning with self-booked accommodation. To discuss accommodation too, see the custom itinerary service. Tell customer service where you want to go, which days you would like to keep for rest and your budget, then compare suitable routes. Phu Quoc hotel, vehicle, guide and ticket costs will be confirmed for your dates, group size and actual requirements.

Guides and communication languages

If you enjoy local commentary, or a family member would benefit from language assistance, start with the Phu Quoc private guide booking guide. State whether you prefer Chinese, English or another language, and whether you need a guide for a full day or part of it, then confirm personnel and costs.

From the first enquiry to departure

Include your departure dates, flights, adult and child numbers, hotel and a few places you most want to visit in the first enquiry to reduce follow-up requests for details. Once you receive a route and quote, check the accommodation, transfers, tickets, meals and guide inclusions one by one, then confirm payment, rescheduling and cancellation terms. Save meeting points and contact details before departure so they are easy to find during the trip.

Before formally booking, read the Terms of Service and Refund Policy. Mention mobility requirements, child seats, large luggage or special meals at the quotation stage, so arrangements can better reflect the needs of your companions.

With the cable car, island hopping, theme parks and hotel time to choose from, the challenge of planning Phu Quoc is deciding how much to fit in. For a first visit, choose a few places you most want to see, then leave an evening or two for the night market, the shore and restaurants you like. On another visit, staying in a different area can give you a whole new kind of island holiday.
